The Geneva Motors Show was the perfect venue for plug-in cars to display with pride their many exciting features and capabilities, especially the diesel-electric plug-in hybrid.

Without a doubt, their participation was a success as it left an impact to the public. Many attendees showed a considerably high degree of interest in electric vehicles, or to know more about them, to say the least.

A model who emerged as one of the more popular electric vehicles was Volvo’s own diesel-electric plug-in hybrid, the V60 D5 Twin Engine Special Edition.

With this newest plug-in car, it clearly proves that Volvo is a major trailblazing player of the EV industry.

The electric vehicle hybrid actually was introduced to the market in 2012, with many units sold and distributed in many parts of Europe. However, its latest special edition possesses a number of improvements from the old model.

Volvo Company boasts that the new hybrid will bring the established Volvo plug-in hybrid solutions closer to more people.

“We were the first car maker to develop and produce a diesel-based plug-in hybrid powertrain with the launch of the V60 D6 in 2012. Since then we have been working on further refining our innovative approach to electrification and hybrid powertrains, as can be seen in our brand new XC90 T8 Twin Engine which is just entering full-scale production.”

“With the launch of the V60 D5 Twin Engine Special Edition we are broadening our Twin Engine product range,” said Thomas Müller, Volvo Car Group’s Vice President for Electrical & Electronics Systems Engineering.

Volvo is excited to share the specifications of the special edition Volvo plug-in hybrid to the public.

For instance, its V60 D5 Double Engine will deliver 120 kW thru its combustion engine and 50 kW from the car’s 11.2 kWh Lithium-ion battery while using the proven configuration being utilized in the Volvo V60 D6 Twin Engine.

Such specs mean a maximum output in driveline power of more or less 230 HP when both the electrical motor and diesel engine are made to work together.

Volvo reported other impressive features of the hybrid car, such as its Crystal White exterior paint, glossing black-hued exterior detailing, and 19-inch wheels.

In its interior, it features an impressive piano black trim as well as a headliner of the same colour.

The exciting blond sport seats will also be a feature in the V60 D5 Special Edition. It is the same upholstery with attractive decorations of white stitching already seen in the Volvo Ocean Race editions.

It has already been announced by Volvo that only 500 units of the V60 D5 Twin Engine Special Edition will be made available in the market.

In the case of the common Volvo V60 D5 Twin Engine, the auto maker assures that a larger quantity of plug-in cars of such model will be put up for sale during the spring season.

Volvo Company has yet to make an announcement on the other aspects of the special edition hybrid, such as its market price, range capacity, and overall efficiency.
